Domenico Zizzi, tuba - Lecce



DOMENICO ZIZZI

 

Since 2017, he has been a tuba professor at the Conservatorio “Tito Schipa” in Lecce.

An award-winning musician, he has performed with various wind ensembles, winning numerous competitions and participating in prestigious national and international music festivals. He has successfully auditioned for renowned orchestras such as Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic in Parma, and the Tito Schipa Orchestra in Lecce.

From 2008 to 2013, he was the principal tubist of Riccardo Muti's “Luigi Cherubini” Youth Orchestra and the tuba soloist of the “Tito Schipa” Foundation Orchestra in Lecce.

As a soloist, he was awarded the Yamaha Italia Prize in Milan as the best brass student among all Italian conservatories. He has collaborated with world-class orchestras, including Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic in Parma, the Cherubini Orchestra, the Orchestra Internazionale d'Italia, and the Orchestra della Provincia di Bari, under the baton of esteemed conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, and Fabio Luisi. His performances have taken him to the most significant classical music and band festivals in Italy and abroad.

He refined his artistry under the mentorship of internationally acclaimed tuba masters, including Rex Martin, Roger Bobo, and Robert Tucci.

His international teaching experience includes serving as a tuba instructor at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan (USA), where he also represented Italy at one of the world’s largest arts camps.

Several renowned composers have written works specifically for him, including Vito Palumbo, Francesco Traversi, Bruno Moretti, Girolamo Deraco, Livio Minafra, and Silvestro Sabatelli.

He graduated in Tuba Performance from the “D. Cimarosa” Conservatory in Avellino and the Hochschule für Musik in Basel (Switzerland), studying under Maestro David Leclair. Additionally, he attended advanced orchestral training programs with the Arturo Toscanini Orchestra in Parma and the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, training under Andrea Conti (Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia) and Mario Barsotti (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino).
